A safe and secure retirement settlement ideal for the elderly to live in a peaceful and beautiful part of the Eastern Cape—South Africa. A phenomenal opportunity for residents to enjoy the lovely surroundings in their twilight years.
Callie Evens Lodge was the project of the Cathcart Senior Citizens Association and began operating in 1974. The Lodge is built on the site of the old Grosvenor Hotel in Cathcart. Callie Evens, after who the Lodge is named, was the motivating force for the development of the Kenya Cottages in Cathcart which were built to accommodate expatriates from Kenya. These cottages are now National Heritage sites and managed as a trust.
We accommodate 4 levels of care for the elderly at Callie Evens with 16 cottages and 3 houses suitable for independent living. To augment this we have a Cottage Carer Protocol for those residents who need assistance with the activities of daily living which allows them to continue living independently for as long as possible. There are 6 bedsitter units for residents who need more input from the nursing oversight and for whom all services are provided. Then we have the assisted living facilities in the Lodge itself and Frail Care which provides 24/7 care. The Lodge and cottages are in grounds with beautiful gardens and access control to the complex. All units have an intercom to the Frail Care duty station and a panic button system which is connected to Frail Care and Security. Our long serving and loyal staff provide empathetic care in every aspect of the services we offer.
We are part of a community in which all the stakeholders work together to ensure that Callie Evens remains a thriving organisation. We are the venue for many community events and on most days is a hive of activity. The Cathcart Craft Club, which was started by expatriates in 1960's , has since developed into a well established Cathcart institution, operating from the Lodge. All their activities generate funds for the Lodge and provide a creative outlet for residents to participate in. We also have weekly art classes, bible studies and a very well stocked library.
